Layer7 Protocol Blocker
Author Markus Hoffmann
Description If you have any problems, please use the forum to report.

Before you could use Layer7 Protocol Blocker you have to install layer7-Filter !
(Download for Ipcop 1.4.13 and higher)

This addon provides a gui to block protocols like messengers or p2p.

It uses layer7-filter not ports !

A userguide could be found Image: http://mh-lantech.css-hamburg.de/ipcop/e107_images/generic/right.gifhere.
It's not complete but i'm working on it

I can't make it work...

I've installed it without problems, and create groups, rules and policies, but it doesn't block anything (or that's what it seems to me).

For example, I've made a group with my ip, a rule to block POP3, SMTP and IMAP, and a policy to merge them. Restart layer 7. After that I open thunderbird and I can send and receive emails normally.

If I understand correctly, with this process I shouldn't be able to send (POP3) and receive (SMTP) emails, am I richt?

Regards

Arcanos

When did you download the layer7-Kernel ?

Maybe your missing the iptables-modules ?

I did it yesterday (and I checked that the files were there).

In any case, I've just check it again and the four files are in the directory.

One more thing I'm realizing now...

When I tested it. I had p2pblock running at the same time, but using just ipp2p.

Could that be a problem???

That could be a problem.

You don't need to use p2pblock if you don't use string-matching.

ipp2p is included into layer7-blocker too.

If you select a protocol supported by ipp2p it will be applied automatically with the layer7-filter.

I've tried again, deactivating p2pblock and the same results... Layer 7 blocker doesn't block my traffic.

I'll tried to uninstall and reinstall....

Hello Markus! As far as possible kan you to create a new option for this addon. The possibility to decide to setting a period of time (ex. from 00:01 to 18:00) when the Layer7 Protocol Blocker is inactive and in the rest of the time the Layer7 Protocol, to filter the traffic.
It is possible to create this option?

I'm quite out of time at the moment, i don't think that i could do this in the near future.

You could use a cronjob to start/stop blocking at a given time.

I understand, thank's for your answer.I'm not a specialist in linux settings. Please tell me where i find information about how to create and how use a cronjob? Some example or tutorial about that.

fix install:

edit: var/ipcop/general-functions.pl
change $General::version = '1.4.18'; -> $General::version = '1.4.13'; (you have version ipcop 1.4.13)

install p2pblock_ipcop_1.4.13

edit: var/ipcop/general-functions.pl
change $General::version = '1.4.13'; -> $General::version = '1.4.18'; (you have version ipcop 1.4.18)

I installed p2pblock and layer7 blocker on IPCOP 1.4.18 with csMKJP's method (change General version).

They can be install and setting by this way, but no actual function at all.

After well setting, I tested them by TOR, MSN, Skype, eMule, but all of these services can pass though my IPCOP as usual.

Hope they will support 1.4.18 soon. :>

I tested it over IPCop 1.4.18 and worked like a charm.

I had to use some tricks, one of them well explained here (the general-functions.pl trick, thanks csMKJP) to install it.

I must say i installed over a fresh IPCop, only AdvProxy and Updxlrator were installed.

I downloaded kernel with layer7 blocker support, the one for 1.4.13 and installed it, then untar this addon and install using the trick as mentioned.

After this, i had to do the patterns update manually and now all works 100%. At school no more MSNMessenger access and no more P2P bandwidth killers can render the adsl unusable. Thanks to the author. And the ones who cannot make it work under 1.4.18 read this carefully.
